Blog #7 Hit Me LIke a Hurricane

One Surprising Week! Hit Me Like a HURRICANE!!

Rating (3 out of 5)
Well, this week has been quite a shocker. Overall I started off the week feeling very relieved and feeling like I could breahe again and that it would be smooth sailing since edTPA was hopefully out of the way, after a very complicated submission. I never would have thought a hurricane would get in my way of submitting, but here we are. Well after submitting, I planned and re-planned, and re-planned as the days of school kept getting cancelled. I kept having to adjust and re-plan because my Friday's have a slightly different schedule, so how the plans fall affected how the activities were planned. We were also supposed to have check ins this week, so those were re-scheduled, so I was having to re-plan for the subjects that I would be teaching during the times that the Check ins were scheduled. Sadly, the weird schedule I was going into and the conssitent change in what the week I was going into would look like, does not give me a great set up for next week, so I am still in a re-planning process because the plans for the week that school was called off would not be suitable for a full normal week without check ins. I am also trying to review and assess to transition units in both reading and math, and I did not want to teach the final new things and then test them at the end of a short week when we did not have time to get into it and help the students to grasp it, so this also affected my planning. This time should have been a great window for getting ahead, but that was not the case for me. I was however able to design a strong attenedence log to keep for my records because my other one was too complex, so I did take time to do that. Another accomplishment for me would be handling a parent concern. My CE and I have been discussing alot this week on what the best course of action would be and really trying to meet this parent in the middle to find a plan of action for this student. Though it is not a fun situation to be in, it was a great situation to witness and a learning experience down the road. This was definitely a week for the books, and I also thought these planning days were a wake up call for all the things that go into it all when I really got a birds eye view of the week when I kept having to adjust for the whole week due to consistent slight changes in the week until the entire week is uprooted and shifted. I loved having this individual time with my CE though to discuss course of action during a surprsing disaster as this.

  2. Hi Caitlyn, be proud of yourself for getting edTPA submitted and making it through this week! Teaching is ever-changing and dynamic especially with events like this that are completely out of your control! It is good that you were able to get some extra time for planning and to consult with your C.E. as well as to work with a parent to find a strategy or solution for your student! Great work!
